On Monday the 16th August our class went to the life education trust caravan. We learnt about how drugs can affect the body and the mind. We also learnt the reason why people get addicted to drugs, alcohol and smoking. Its mainly because the things that they are taking are effecting the chemicals in their brain and the brain stops making them, so they have to take double doses and if they dont they get depresed, and that is why they take so much. That is what people call addiction. Its amazing what happens to people when they take drugs or smoke and sometimes they dont realise what has happened to them. We also learnt that some people only take drugs to fit in with everyone else. Hey think its cool, but since we found ot what it did, we didn't think it was. The caravan travels all around nz, going from school to school, teaching kids abot things like how the liver works, what the body does and how the body works. It really is quite interesting. We dont know what we are going to be learning about next time, and were all exited to go back

Winners in the Science Fair

Six of the pupils in Room 6 particpiated in the school science fair and Mrs Brinsley was delighted to see the final exhibits and was proud of their efforts. Two of the pupils recieved top awards: Michaela with her "Breathless" and Elaina with her music instrument called a Slido Instrumo.

Hey people,lately HEAPS of kids in the school have been involved in the science fair. For those of you who dont know what the science fair is, six kidz in our class entered an exibit about something science related that they were interested in.The hardest part was picking a topic. Two pupils in our class won a prize!!they dont know what they have won yet they will find out if they have won just a certificate or a certificate and some money!! thanks for reading.

Groups

In room 6 we have class groups. These are the names of the five groups. The Cool Kids, Chocolate Pie, The Spuddies, Afro Monkies and Peace. Crazy names aye. Group points is the system in room 6. We aren't quite sure what happens when it ends.We have just been told the groups get a reward at the end of 2 weeks. Right now at 9:15 am on the 4th of August the Cool Kids are in the lead by 1 point with The Spuddies close behind. Wish us luck.☺

Science(Chemical Reactions)

We have been studying science(chemical reactions) for about a term. Our first experiment was "Invisible Ink." We made invisible ink obviously. We used lemon juice,a couple of drops of water and mixed. Then we got a toothpick and dipped it in the ink mix and wrote on a piece of paper. Then we held the piece of paper with writing on it over a light bulb and PRESTO!!!!!! YOU HAVE INVISIBLE INK!!!!!! That was our first experiment. Now we have done some electricity experiments. We had lots of wires and batteries to make a little light bulb light up with batteries. We experimented alot of ways to make the bulb light up. We had to draw them in our books and describe what happened. (We did this with Mr Wallace by the way). We split up into 3 groups and we took turns in pairs to do the electricity. But it was way fun!!

Ello ello ello!!!!! One of the topics in rm 6 is POETRY!!!!! Our learning intention is "To Read, Interpret, Analyse and Write Poems." So far we have written a poem about a recent fire drill. Here is one of the poems written by a rm 6 student.

The Fire Drill

Everybody was wondering,
wondering what happened.
Was there a fire.......No.
Was it a drill.......Yes.
It was loud,
too many people were talking,
talking too loud.
Names were being called.
Names who belonged to people I don't know.
Then we were leaving.
Leaving for class
